A day after Texas A&M football’s season came to a frustrating end, Texas A&M volleyball’s came to a triumphant one. In just the third season under head coach Jamie Morrison, the Aggies completed an improbable run to claim the first national championship in program history, sweeping 1 seed Kentucky three sets to none in the championship match on Sunday.
Kentucky defeated A&M 3-1 in the team’s regular season match in October at Reed Arena, en route to a regular season SEC title and an SEC tournament title. But the Aggies continued their stellar tournament play to win one when it mattered most, taking the sets 26-24, 25-15 and 25-20.
After entering the tournament as the 3 seed, the senior-laden Aggies went through an absolute gauntlet, defeating three straight No. 1 seeds (Nebraska, Pitt and Kentucky) to seal the deal on a magical season. It’s also worth noting that the only No. 1 seed they didn’t face in the tournament (Texas), is one they defeated in the regular reason.
This marks the third straight academic year in which an A&M team has won a national championship, with Women’s Tennis claiming one in 2023-24, Track & Field winning an outdoor title in 2024-25, and volleyball adding one in 2025-26.
