Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is likely to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer when he becomes eligible for the Class of 2027 the next time the committee votes. Before he gets to Canton, however, he’s going to be enshrined in the place where he made his name in the NFL.
The Vikings have announced that Peterson will be the team’s 2026 inductee into the Ring of Honor. The ceremony will take place at halftime of one of the team’s games at U.S. Bank Stadium this season, the date of which
has yet to be determined.
The team informed Peterson of the honor when they brought him in to talk to the team’s rookies, as you can see in the video below.
Peterson, who will be the 29th member of the Ring of Honor, was selected 7th overall in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Vikings out of Oklahoma, and holds pretty much every meaningful rushing record in franchise history. He carried the ball 2,418 times for the Vikings for 11,747 yards, which is nearly 5,000 yards more than the next-closest Viking (Robert Smith with 6,818). Peterson’s 102 career touchdowns in a Vikings uniform puts him second in franchise history in that category behind Cris Carter’s 110.
Peterson is also the last non-quarterback to be named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player, as he won the award in 2012. That season, he ran for 2,097 yards, just shy of Eric Dickerson’s single-season record, less than a full season after tearing his ACL.
For his career, Peterson rushed for 14,918 yards, a total that stands as the fifth-most in NFL history.
