The Commanders didn’t even wait for their formal injury report to announce the return of some key starters. Head coach Dan Quinn said that linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin) and tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) will play on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
That’s a huge win for Washington, getting two primary starters back in the lineup.
Not all news on Friday’s injury report was positive. Star receiver Terry McLaurin was added to the participation report on Friday with
a hamstring injury. He was limited in Friday’s practice was designated as questionable on the Commanders official injury report. The McLaurin raises an eyebrow, with him showing up late could mean he got hurt in Friday’s practice. There’s some uncertainty about what happened with him and if his injury is minor or more serious.
Running back Rachaad White was ruled out of Sunday’s game after missing all three practices.
Quinn also announced the quarterback Jayden Daniels was ruled out of Sunday contest after returning to practice on a limited basis while recovering from a dislocated left elbow. If you think we’re buried the lede here, we haven’t. Daniels got his own story, which you can read by clicking the link below: ⬇️
The team formally ruled safety Nick Cross (illness) and guard Sam Cosmi (concussion) out earlier in the week, as they weren’t part of Washington’s traveling party for this Week 4 contest against the Colts.
The Commanders are light at running back but have some reinforcements, having brought newly re-signed running back Austin Ekeler with them to London and it’s possible he could suit up right away despite Washington running a different system than when he was with the team last season.
Assuming Ekeler is active, he and Kaytron Allen will back up Jacory Croskey-Merriott. If not, the Commanders will likely dip into their practice squad options (Robert Henry Jr., Craig Reynolds) for support.
