The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers enter their Week 6 matchup at opposite ends of the momentum spectrum. The Packers are riding high after a dominating victory over the Chicago Bears last week while the Cowboys are still licking their wounds after the embarrassing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
As we all know, Lambeau Field hasn’t been kind to the Cowboys in recent memory. They’ll need to play traumatically better than they did a week ago, and maybe even have some luck on their side to secure
a “W”.
To do that, they may need to have certain matchups go their way. If not, and could be another disappointing week around Cowboys Nation. Below are the matchups that could be difference makers.
RB Javonte Williams vs. Packers run defense
The Packers are coming off a game in which they held D’Andre Swift to just 43 yards on nine carries and only allowed Chicago to rush for a total of 81 rushing yards. They’ll be hoping to do the same this week against Javonte Williams and the Cowboys. Williams probably has other plans.
He’s been a touchdown scoring machine so far this year with six, but is currently struggling to find consistency as a runner, averaging just 3.7 yards per carry. If Williams has success on the ground, it should sway the game in Dallas’ favor.
Cowboys secondary vs. Packers pass offense
If there’s one area where the Packers have the advantage over the Cowboys entering this Week 6 matchup, it’s their passing offense. QB Jordan Love threw for 367 yards and two touchdowns last week and is probably licking his chops to face the Cowboys secondary, which is currently ranked 30th in the league in passing yards allowed.
Dallas’ secondary is beat up at both cornerback and safety, but the return of Joey Porter Jr. to the lineup after missing last week’s game (illness) will help. This matchup could heavily impact the outcome of the game.
Cowboys pass offense vs. Packers secondary
If there’s a matchup that’s going to decide the outcome of this game, it’s probably going to be between the Cowboys aerial attack and the Packers pass defense. Green Bay is currently ranked fifth in the league allowing only 181 passing yards per game, but they haven’t faced an offense as talented as the Cowboys, and most teams like to run on the Packers anyway.
Dallas is averaging 269.6 passing yards per game, which is fifth the league, and have arguably the best WR duo to exploit the Packers secondary. Dak Prescott and Company need to play better than last week, but this matchup could be the difference between a win or loss.
