According to a report from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona is pushing hard to finalize a deal with Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon this week:
🚨🔵🔴 Barcelona want Anthony Gordon deal to be sealed already this week, club is confident.
Agreement with the player and talks ongoing with Newcastle around €80m total package, waiting for #NUFC green light.
If true, this is a crazy turn of events and is happening very quickly. Should Bayern Munich get aggressive and try to make a dramatic
swoop to swipe Gordon away from Barca’s clutches? Some fans think so, while others are content to move on to Plan B.
It seems unlikely for the Bavarians to make a competing bid due to Bayern Munich’s stringent financial practices, but crazier things have happened. Bayern Munich is said to have alternative plans if the Gordon pursuit fails, but there is also the chance that this goes the way of the Florian Wirtz saga last summer.
Bayern Munich was considered the frontrunner to get Florian Wirtz last summer before Liverpool swept in against all odds and made a deal. Could Bayern Munich play the role of Liverpool in this scenario and make the late transfer theft or will this be another case of Bayern Munich leading a pursuit and then failing to close to the deal (for one reason or another)?
We might find out soon, but there is also a chance Bayern Munich just decided this bidding is too rich for its blood.
