Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts has been on a hitting barrage of late, culminating in a strong week against the Rockies and Giants that earned him National League player of the week, announced by the league on Monday.
Betts had two multi-hit games against the Rockies at home, then two multi-hit games against the Giants in San Francisco. His four-hit game last Wednesday included a grand slam and five RBI, his fifth straight game with multiple runs batted in, one game shy of the Dodgers record.
He added
three more hits and three runs scored in Sunday’s blowout of the Giants. In all, Betts hit .462/.517/.808 with three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, and seven runs scored in six games last week.
It’s part of a resurgence of late for Betts, who struggled at the plate for the majority of the season, trying to re-find his swing. As late as August 4, Betts on the season had a .657 OPS and 84 wRC+. Thirty-five games later, Betts on the season has a .742 OPS and a 107 wRC+.
This is the sixth career player of the week award for Betts, including three with the Dodgers. He last won for the week of August 20-26, 2023, and also won for the week of August 21-27, 2022.
Betts is the third Dodgers player to win NL player of the week in 2025, joining Andy Pages (April 20-26) and Freddie Freeman (May 4-10).
