Here we go everyone. The fina day of the year where there will be four separate baseball games. Enjoy it while it lasts because the winter is creeping up on us.
The first game today will be the Seattle Mariners trying to finish off the Detroit Tigers on the road in MoTown. Can the Tigers keep their season alive and get this series back to Seattle? They’ll ask former 1st overall draft pick Casey Mize to deliver on his draft pedigree this afternoon. Seattle will go with their own young right-hander
in Bryce Miller, a highly-touted arm that struggled in 18 stars for Seattle this season.
The second game today will be the Brewers versus the Cubs in Game 3. The Cubs dropped both games in Milwaukee and find themselves in a scary 0-2 hole. Luckily for them, they’re back at home and hopefully being in front of their fans can spark the Cubs to a win this afternoon to keep their season alive. It’ll be right-handed rookie Quinn Priester for the Brew Crew while the Cubs will hope veteran Jameson Taillon can come through in a huge moment for his team.
Then we bounce back to the American League where the Yankees will once again face elimination. Getting back home seemed to do wonders for their chances against the AL’s #1 seed and another win today would knot this series all back up and set up the winner-take-all Game 5. Toronto would like to avoid that with a victory in New York tonight. They’ll be going with an opener strategy for today’s contest, sending reliever Louis Varland to the bump. New York will counter with emerging starter Cam Schlittler, who’ll be asked to repeat his last outing when he went eight shutout innings against Boston. Tall order to ask for a rookie and we’ll see if it gets them to tomorrow.
We wrap the day down in Southern California where the Dodgers will try to finish off the Phillies. The high-priced squads had a couple of close contests but the Dodgers came out on top in both games in Philly and now are in Los Angels with two chances to advance to the NLCS in front of their home crowd. The Dodgers will go with expensive international signing Yoshinobu Yamamoto for this contest while the Phillies will hope former ace Aaron Nola can rediscover his previous form and keep their season alive.
