The Golden State Warriors continue their three-game road trip Monday night as they head up to the Rocky Mountains for a matchup against the Denver Nuggets. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM PT in Denver, with the game streaming on Peacock.
Previously with the Warriors:
The Warriors remain winless to start the season after suffering a 131-122 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.
Despite being severely shorthanded with the team opting to rest their veterans on the second night of a back-to-back, Golden State put up a valiant effort behind rookie Yaxel Lendeborg and veteran guard De’Anthony Melton, who combined for 51 points.
However, their offensive outburst was overshadowed by Suns superstar Devin Booker, who erupted for a game-high 43 points of his own. Booker’s dominant performance, along with timely contributions from Phoenix’s supporting cast, ultimately proved too much for a depleted Warriors team.
What to watch for tonight:
Still searching for their first win of the season, the Warriors will need all hands on deck against a Denver team led by three-time league MVP Nikola Jokic. Fortunately for Golden State, their veteran players are expected to return to the lineup Monday night after sitting out Saturday’s loss to Phoenix.
One player worth keeping an eye on is Steph Curry, who will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing finish to Friday night’s loss against the Memphis Grizzlies. Curry spoke about how much the team’s late-game collapse stung, particularly after the Warriors squandered a double-digit lead in the closing minutes. Aside from an early three-pointer, Curry was held scoreless for the remainder of the fourth quarter, leaving Golden State without the offensive production it desperately needed from their superstar.
Fortunately for the Warriors, Curry has built a career on responding to adversity. With a primetime matchup against one of the league’s top teams on tap, Monday night presents another opportunity for the four-time NBA champion to deliver a statement performance and help Golden State finally break into the win column.
