Manuel Neuer celebrated his 40th birthday on March 27, 2026. Less than two weeks later, he pulls out a MOTM display in the quarterfinals of the Champions League against Real Madrid and helps Bayern Munich to a 3-1 away in the Bernabeu. Class is permanent, after all.
Speaking after the match, Neuer talked about the danger the home side posed and the many saves he had been forced to make:
“We knew how dangerous Real Madrid can be going forward. They created many chances,” Neuer admitted, as captured
by @iMiaSanMia. “We’re happy with this away win, but we’re also aware it’s going to be a tough task in Munich next week.”
Neuer was even asked about how he felt about the performance considering his age: “I’m having fun with the team, at the club, with the coaching staff. It’s true that I’m 40, but I’m still here.”
Age is just a number. As long as Neuer feels healthy and can put in these kinds of performances, it is doubtful Bayern will deny the legendary goalkeeper a new contract.
