Next up in our look back at the A’s players in 2025, we turn back to the pitcher’s mound by looking into the rearview mirror for our time with Osvaldo Bido.
How was he acquired?
Osvaldo Bid was signed out of the Dominican Republic by the Pittsburgh Pirates as an international free agent on March 14, 2017. After being non-tendered by the Pirates in November of 2023, he signed as a free agent with the Athletics.
What were the expectations?
The A’s called him up for a start on May 8, 2024. All-in-all he pitched
in sixteen games, with nine starts. He stuck with the team for most of the season with positive results, going 5-3 with a 3.14 ERA in 63.1 innings. His season ended with right wrist flexor tendonitis on September 8. His season and his 2025 Spring Training earned him a spot on the opening day roster.
2025 Results
2025 was definitely a mixed bag for Bido. He made nine starts for the A’s from March 29 to May 15. He was 2-2 through April with a 4.31 ERA. But he was hit hard in early May and was sent down to AAA Las Vegas twice before rejoining the team for good at the end of July. In total, he pitched in twenty-six games (10 starts) and finished the season with a 2-5 record and a 5.87 ERA. The A’s waived Bido at the end of the season, ending his time with the club.
2026 Outlook
Osvaldo Bido signed with the Atlanta Braves on December 5. If he makes the team’s opening day roster, it’s believed that it will be as a long reliever. We wish him well.
