Yes, that’s right. A potential first-round matchup of none other than Carson Beck coming back to Athens. If you want to see how much some fans detest Carson Beck, even if it’s only centered around the media narrative of his exit from Georgia, that band-aid is going to get ripped off if this matchup happens.
Certainly, a lot can happen between now and then. Georgia could end up higher than this projection, or lower. Miami could be starting another late-season swoon. But it’s fun to mull over, especially during an off week.
There’s no way to get around the fact that Georgia’s receiving corps will take a hit with Colbie Young out. So where does Georgia go from here? One of the blessings of the open date is there’s a full week of which to do what you usually would in this time window, which is to take a deeper look at your current key roles and those who down the road you’ll lean on.
Given the fact that Georgia now needs to lock in and see how best to replace Young, this open date is well-timed. Is it one of the Branch Bros? Dillon Bell? Does Noah Thomas’ progression within the offense continue? An x-factor could be CJ Wiley, who has seen spot duty…but that could change on the depth chart now. And as we saw Saturday – does the use of the tight end change all of a sudden?
Yes, also has a week off before Jacksonville. But this open date could be an even better timing for Georgia.
