After going into the halftime break at 0-0, it was business as usual for Bayern Munich, coming away with a 5-0 win over Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt at the Allianz Arena to kick off their 2026/27 Champions League campaign.
Jamal Musiala opened up the scoring in the 47th minute for the German Rekordmeister, which well and truly opened the flood gates and made a rough night for backup keeper Julian Faye Lund, who had to replace the injured Nikita Haikin at halftime.
A brace from Michael Olise, a goal from Harry
Kane, and a sensational half volley from Alphonso Davies rounded out the scoring for Vincent Kompany’s side, and they’re now second in the Champions League table behind only Paris Saint-Germain. The defending Champions League winners scored 6 goals in their opening win of the European campaign over Slovan Bratislava in Paris.
For his contributions to Bayern’s win over Bodø/Glimt, Olise was officially voted Man of the Match, as he well and truly took control of proceedings in the second half. He finished the night with two goals and an assist while also boasting a passing accuracy of 83%. The French winger also covered a total distance of 11 kilometers and reached a top speed of 31.4 kilometers per hour during the winning effort, faring far better on the right flank than Luis Díaz did from the left.
For Olise, this is likely his first of what will be several Player of the Match awards for the Champions League and it takes his overall tally on the season to five goals and two assists from a total of five appearances across all competitions.
Had he been given more than 33 minutes in last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Schalke in the Bundesliga, his tally would likely be higher, but Kompany had to make necessary rotations to ensure he had fresh enough legs to get off to a winning start in the Champions League.
Not to mention, this weekend’s trip to take on SV Elversberg could prove to be far trickier than what would’ve been anticipated from the start of the season, as the newly promoted side have won their opening two matches. SV Elversberg currently sits in the fourth spot of the Bundesliga table, two spots better off than Bayern Munich.
