Yes, Germany was supposed to walk straight through Curaçao, but it was still impressive to watch Julian Nagelsmann’s team put up a sensational 7-1 victory in the World Cup.
One player, who was maybe more happy than anyone else was Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who made his much-anticipated return to Die Mannschaft:
“I waited so long for this day and was determined to play. It felt very good to be on the pitch with the guys. It’s always very important to have a good start in a major tournament.
We played a good game and scored many goals. The players who came off the bench brought good energy. We never stopped looking for the next goal. Now we’ll analyze and see what we can do better in the next games,” Neuer said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Neuer was not tested all that often, but did register one save in the match. The veteran seems happy to have made the decision to return — something that did not appear likely just a few months ago.
