Bayern Munich’s training grounds at the Säbener Straße have a strong look to them nowadays. While some crucial areas are still open for the team to train in, vast areas of the pitch have been closed off, grass has been removed and construction vehicles are parked there throughout the day.
The Säbener Straße, after all, is undergoing an expansion.
Not just the fields are being adjusted, however, as parts of the building itself have been adjusted to make more room. Bild captured the current state of the construction
(via @iMiaSanMia), while noting that Bayern’s grander plans yet remain on ice:
Construction work is ongoing at Säbener Straße during the international break. The first-team section has been expanded towards the training pitches. A sun terrace had to be removed to make way for it. The new part of the building, which is currently still under construction, will provide more space for various departments.
The reason for this extension is that the planned new performance centre, consisting of five floors and at a cost of up to €150 million, is still on hold. The plans had already been approved in 2024 by the Supervisory Board. However, the club would rather invest the money required for the project in the squad for the time being. Whether and when the new performance centre will eventually be built remains open.
2024 was a period in time in which Bayern truly needed investment in the squad. The squad looks a lot stronger two years down the line, though, and the club will likely not want to delay construction of the performance center for much longer. How much will that affect the Bavarians’ transfer budget when the construction for the performance center finally truly begins?
Perhaps that is why Bayern have been linked with selling off a share of the club. That sale would more than cover the cost of the new center (as well as offset the costs of the new basketball performance center and buying the Sportpark Unterhaching) and allow Bayern to continue operating as per normal on the transfer market.
