John Harbaugh continued filling out his New York Giants’ coaching staff on Monday, reportedly bringing Grant Newsome on board as assistant offensive line coach.
Newsome, an offensive tackle, played and coached at Michigan under Jim Harbaugh. Newsome’s playing career ended in 2016 when he suffered a dislocated right knee and assorted other injuries.
Newsome began coaching in 2018 and was Michigan’s tight ends coach under Jim Harbaugh in 2022 and 2023. He coached the team’s offensive line in 2024 and 2025.
The Michigan offensive line was one of the best in the country in 2025.
Newsome is just 28 years old. The Giants have not yet hired an offensive line coach, or an offensive coordinator.
Offensive coordinator update
The Giants are continuing to search for an offensive coordinator, even as they continue to hire offensive position coaches who will work under that coordinator.
The Giants are expected to conduct in-person interviews for the coordinator role at some point this week, and then make a decision.
