The Cleveland Cavaliers filled their last two-way spot on Friday afternoon. ESPN’s Shams Charania has reported that the team will be signing Akron native Chris Livingston to a two-way deal. The Milwaukee Bucks released Livingston before the start of the season.
Livingston was a highly
touted prospect coming out of high school. He spent one year at Buchtel before transferring to Western Reserve in Hudson for his sophomore and junior years. Livingston finished high school at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia.
Livingston hasn’t necessarily lived up to that billing since then. The 6’6” wing didn’t have the success many were expecting at college. He averaged just 6.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in his one collegiate season at Kentucky in 22.4 minutes per game.

Livingston declared for the draft after his freshman year. The Bucks selected him with the 58th overall pick in 2023. Livingston played just 42 games with Milwaukee, averaging 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in 4.7 minutes per game.
Most of Livingston’s professional experience has come in the G League over the last two seasons. Last year, he averaged 18.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and two assists in 18 games with the Wisconsin Herd.
There’s a reason scouts were high on Livingston coming out of high school. It’s not often that players who haven’t lived up to the hype in college or their first years in the NBA suddenly turn it around with their second professional team. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Livingston just recently turned 22. He’s young enough to talk yourself into being something there.
This is a low-risk move. Whoever the Cavs were to sign with the third two-way spot wasn’t going to get NBA minutes. We’ll see how Livingston develops with the Cleveland Charge.
The Cavaliers now have just one open roster spot on their roster.
