Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis has not had the career he envisioned when he was selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. After two seasons in which he attempted a combined 66 passes in 11 games played for the Tennessee Titans, Willis was traded to the Green Bay Packers ahead of the 2024 season. He appeared in 11 games with 89 passes attempted in two years with the Packers before becoming a free agent this past offseason. The Dolphins jumped at the opportunity to sign Willis, provide
him stability, and give him a chance to prove he is a capable starter in the league.
Now named the Dolphins’ starter, Willis has battled to earn this opportunity. The Palm Beach Post’s Joe Schad took a look at the perseverance and belief that it took for Willis to get to this point in a one-on-one interview:
Joe Schad: I think people appreciate perseverance. Some people feel like they were handed things and you have not been handed things. You have had to earn this. What qualities do you admire most in other people?
Malik Willis: Probably that perseverance that you talk about. I think that’s an important quality as far as life goes because you just never know what happens. All the ups and downs of life, if you can, you can always work towards something better. Regardless if it goes better or not, you can work towards something better. And that’s the opportunity. It keeps you going.
