Bayern Munich’s future proofing in the goalkeeper position is already mostly complete. With the signing of Jonas Urbig in January 2025, the Bavarians were able to secure a young goalkeeper that they really like and has increasingly made good impressions whenever No.1 goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is unavailable. With Neuer’s contract expiring in 2026 and a final decision on his future beyond the season having not yet been made, Bayern have been linked to numerous goalkeepers to potentially back up Urbig.
Names such as Oliver Baumann and Daniel Heuer Fernandes have been linked to Bayern.
Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakir is not a name one would expect to be a backup, though. The 30-year-old transferred to Galatasaray from Trabzonspor in the summer of 2025 for around €27 million, has a contract until 2030 and is the Turkish league leader’s No.1 goalkeeper.
Nevertheless, reporters Christian Falk and Julian Agardi brought up his name in their podcast, as captured by @iMiaSanMia_GER, as a name on Bayern’s shortlist:
Uğurcan Çakir (30) is on Bayern’s list. The Galatasaray goalkeeper is being discussed at Bayern, as goalkeeper coach Michael Rechner trained him with the Turkish national team. The two have very close contact.
Çakir would surely cost more than the €27 million it took to pry him from Trabzonspor. Would Bayern be willing to spend so much on a goalkeeper?
