The Buffalo Bills are mourning the loss of the young son of defensive tackle Ed Oliver. Rumors began circulating Friday night with the NFL Network reporting it Saturday morning. The Bills confirmed the tragedy Saturday afternoon. Ed Oliver’s young son has tragically passed away.
“On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son. It’s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue
to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss,” said general manager Brandon Beane in a statement released by the team.
The Bills and Oliver have not released any details at this time.
The incident reportedly occurred in late June at Oliver’s suburban Houston home, where first responders were called for an unresponsive young male who had been pulled from a pool. Oliver was born and raised in Houston and played for the University of Houston.
Oliver has been in attendance at the team’s training camp throughout July and August but missed this week’s joint practices in Cleveland with an injury. Some outlets have connected the absence to his son’s death but we have no indication that is the case.
Our condolences go out to Oliver and his family.
