The group stage is nearly wrapping up, and Bayern Munich have done excellently so far. Massive wins, and with just one loss, the Bavarians are positioned well. They played their penultimate home game against Union Saint-Gilloise at home, in what was touted to be an easy fixture, perhaps a goal-fest.
However, reality is often stranger than fiction. This was perhaps Bayern’s scrappiest win off late.
A lackluster first half, despite Bayern dominance kept the scoreline at 0-0. The second half however,
led to the breakthrough as Harry Kane championed the comeback with a goal in the 52nd assisted by Michael Olise. He then scored from the spot three minutes later. The loss of Kim Min-Jae and Harry Kane’s following penalty miss meant that the team had to step up defensively, and so they did. The midfield established their control over the game, leading Bayern to finish with a mere two goals, but three points nonetheless.
The player of the match Kane had a few words on Bayern did in the first half, calling them sloppy.
“I thought the second half was better. We were a bit sloppy in the first half and lacked energy,” he said, via @iMiaSanMia. “We said at half time that we had to show more intensity, and we did that. We scored at the right times, got unlucky with the red card, but still controlled the game and got the three points.”
The heat for losing a penalty however is rather intense online and we can only hope Kane can take it gracefully.
