What is the story about?
The
Mariners lost last to the birdos last night, despite a pretty decent outing from George Kirby. That’s a sentence we’ve written on this blog a lot. The rubber match is an early one today, 1:10 first pitch, on Mariners TV and 710 KIRO. Bryan Woo v. Shane Baz. Also, our long national nightmare is almost over. Ders will be back on the links on Saturday.
In Mariners News . . .
- Julio Rodríguez left last night’s game in the sixth inning with a hamstring spasm. He’s day-to-day. Not sure at what point the Mariners just hold open tryouts for outfielders.
- The Rainiers made some moves yesterday. Domingo Gonzalez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Tacoma. Leo Rivas, who’s apparently been hurt(?) was put on the 7-day IL.
- Kate captured proof of life on Brendan Donovan, though it’d be more convincing if he was holding today’s USA Today.
Around the League . . .
- The T-Mobile Home Run Derby is ditching the clock and going back to the out system!
- The Beclownment in the Bay just won’t stop.
- The Phillies optioned Andrew Painter back to AAA after barely making it out of the second inning yesterday.
- Jen Ramos-Eisen has been covering the A’s trip to Vegas and her final dispatch looks at whether the city is ready to embrace the team.
- As the Sun Hat Award guy, I totally dig this check in on the 2026 possibilities for baseball’s other headwear achievements, the Triple Crown and Golden Sombrero.
- Driveline’s Kyle Boddy has parted ways with the Boston Red Sox. Get him on the phone, Jerry.
- MLB Pipeline’s #1 prospect, Jesus Made left yesterday’s game with a quad contusion.
Zach’s Picks . . .
- The great state of Oregon is drastically overrepresented at the World Cup. No, not like that.
