Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp had one difficult decision to make ahead of today’s match, with Hoffenheim attacking midfielder Bambasé Conté set to be the player left out of the 23-man matchday squad.
Only 23 players are permitted to be included in the team for the game. That means one player was always going to miss out from Klopp’s first “group”, which will play the first two games. Conté is reportedly the unfortunate player on this occasion. per UEFA (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Conté has earned
his place in the squad through his performances at club level, but the competition is already becoming intense. For Conté, being left out does not necessarily say anything about his standing with the national team.
Klopp’s decision to include so many players in the pool was always going to result in some players not being used. However, the approach also gives each player plenty of opportunities to prove himself in training.
