Dominik Mysterio is a dirtbag. The AAA mega champion lived up to the Dirty Dom name by betraying El Grande Americano at AAA Verano de Escandalo (July 25, 2026).
Dominik and El Grande Americano teamed together as Los Gringo Locos 2.0 to fight Los Perros del Mal. The question was if this was a trap set up by Dom to weaken EGA heading into their showdown for the AAA Mega Championship at Triplemania in September. Well, Dominik stabbed EGA in the back. However, the story played out with a different twist
than expected.
Earlier in the evening, El Grande Americano pointblank asked Dominik if he had his back. Is Dom with EGA? Or is Dom with Los Perros? Dominik didn’t exactly lie. He isn’t with Los Perros. Dom sweet-talked EGA into dreaming about how they can have the biggest match in AAA history at Triplemania. EGA bought that pitch to believe they are united by a common goal. The scene closed with a pop for lucha libre fans when Damian 666 approached EGA. Damian is an OG member of Los Perros.
Main event time. I should have suspected something smelled funny when Dominik and El Grande Americano didn’t arrive wearing the matching Gringos Locos gear. Their opponents from Los Perros del Mal were Daga and Angel Garza.
The match built to show Dominik and El Grande Americano working well as a unit. They utilized smart tags for hot offense. Dominik even tagged in EGA on Three Amigos for a double suplex on the third amigo. Another example was EGA with the superplex followed by a frog splash from Dom.
Not long after, the match broke down into chaos. It started when El Grande Americano sent Angel crashing into the referee. Ref down! Angel laughed and blew a kiss at the official. The timing was funny, because Dom didn’t waste time hitting the 619 on Angel’s puckered lips. EGA connected on a diving headbutt to pin Angel. No ref though to make the three-count. Dominik pulled out the piece of steel from his boot to hand to EGA for a loaded headbutt. This was another step in believing that they were on the same page as a team.
Los Perros weren’t going down like that. Berto and Bronco Nima ran down to attack Dominik. Bravo and Rayo joined the fracas with kendo sticks. Bravo climbed high above for a 20-foot falling crossbody onto the pile.
Karmen Petrovic arrived on stage as the Angel of Death. She must have gotten Nima’s juices flowing, because he powered up for a double chokeslam to Bravo and Rayo onto the Spanish commentary table. Even in Mexico, the Spanish commentary table isn’t safe. El Grande Americano neutralized Nima with a suicide dive and a running headbutt. Angel caught EGA for a pop-up knee strike. This started the heroic build of EGA’s intestinal fortitude toward the hot tag to Dominik. El Grande Americano kept kicking out from heavy maneuvers. The crowd’s reaction grew louder and louder in support of EGA. Daga peppered punches, and EGA fired up after each one. Double clothesline by EGA. The opening was there for the tag to Dom.
El Grande Americano reached out. Dominik short-armed him and backed away from the ring. Betrayal! Dirty Dom left EGA ripe for the picking. Los Perros feasted to finish EGA on a double stomp from Daga. The win went to Los Perros del Mal.
The story didn’t end there.
Dominik’s betrayal didn’t signify that he is in cahoots with Los Perros. On the contrary, Dom aligned with a different crew to watch his back from Los Perros. Dominik stood on stage alongside Dorian Roldan and the giant Omos.
This move from Dominik is also a jab at his father. In the opening segment, Dorian and Omos threatened harm to AAA general manager Rey Mysterio. Dorian blamed Rey for the injury to Hijo del Vikingo and not allowing the Latin American Championship to be handed over to Omos. Recruiting Dominik is part of Dorian’s payback scheme.
AAA did a great job with storylines in this main event. More questions were created than answers, and that fills the road to Triplemania with intrigue. AAA doubled down on Dominik as a rudo, which only creates a hotter reaction when El Grande Americano beats him. Los Perros del Mal were strong in victory, and this new era of Los Perros established themselves well. There is a lot of excitement ahead for EGA going to war against Los Perros. Heck, I hope we see EGA be the one to finally pin Omos in AAA. Imagine the reaction of him conquering the giant.
