The Michigan Wolverines have their coaching staff set for the 2026 season, and it is almost entirely new. There will only be a few familiar faces on the sidelines next year, and based on how the last two
seasons went, that is a good thing.
With the new staff in place, we are starting to see a lot of offers roll out to high school recruits, including to a number of quarterbacks.
Numerous QB offers handed out by new coaching staff
There is a lot of time between now and the start of the 2026 season, and with the transfer portal all but officially wrapped up, recruiting will be a huge focus moving forward. Some players who were being targeted by the old staff will still be a priority, but this new staff will also have their eyes on a lot of other players.
This past week, we started to see a lot of offers handed out, and many of them went to quarterbacks. Bryce Underwood isn’t going to be around forever, so there is clearly an emphasis on recruiting the position right now. Michigan recently offered three different quarterbacks.
Lukas Prock, class of 2028:
Walker Snee, class of 2029:
And perhaps most notably, Christopher Vargas, a five-star and a top-10 overall player in the class of 2028:
Michigan offers 2026 kicker
Quarterbacks weren’t the only ones getting offers last week. The Wolverines are also hoping to land a commitment from 2026 kicker Jacob Baggett, who was offered on Friday. Not only that, but he took a quick visit to Ann Arbor and earned some predictions from Ethan McDowell and EJ Holland from The Wolverine.
Michigan has had some terrific kickers come through the program in recent years, and the new staff clearly doesn’t want that to change. Baggett is a top-10 kicker in the 2026 class, and with former signee Micah Drescher asking out of his letter of intent, the Wolverines could use another specialist in the class.
2027 LB high on Michigan
One task the new staff has right now is making sure the players who were already offered are still on their list of targets. One player who was offered before the new staff came in is 2027 three-star linebacker Blake Betton.
The new linebackers coach for Michigan is Alex Whittingham, the son of head coach Kyle Whittingham. After watching Betton’s film, Alex is excited about the opportunity to recruit him.
“Coach Alex Whittingham called yesterday,” Betton told The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($). “We had a great convo. He told me a little about himself and his coaching history at the pro level with the Kansas City Chiefs for eight years prior and is really excited about Michigan. He said he was starting to go through the film of the offered players and my film stuck out to him and wanted to reach out to me and let me know that my offer is still good! I’m excited about coach Alex Whittingham. He solidified my confidence in Michigan and the new coaching staff and they will continue to be high on my list. I’m really happy that he reached out and Michigan will remain high on my list for sure.”
Betton has taken numerous visits to Ann Arbor, and he wants to come back this spring. While that hasn’t been schedule yet, it sounds like that will be a priority of his in the near future.
Michigan extends offers to 2027 WR, DB
More offers rolled in last week, this time in the 2027 class. The 2026 cycle recently wrapped up, so the 2027 class is the main focus right now. After receiving an offer from the Wolverines, three-star 2027 Georgia commit wide receiver Gavin Honore has some options to weigh.
“Conversations went great, and yes, a lot of interest,” Honore told On3’s McDowell ($). “Planning to make it out on campus sometime in the spring.”
Michigan also offered 2027 safety Darrell Mattison. He enjoyed getting to speak with new Michigan safeties coach Tyler Stockton.
“The meeting went wonderful!” Mattison said. “Loved coach Stockton’s energy. He is very cool and straightforward.”
