The New York Giants trip to take on the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football was a perfect storm of bad outcomes. The Giants were out-schemed and out-executed by arguably the most talented team in the NFL. And to add injury to insult, the Giants also lost QB Jaxson Dart to a knee injury on their 11th play of the game, and edge defender Brian Burns to a sprained ankle late in the game.
The Giants don’t have time to lick their wounds from their loss to the Rams. They have a quick turnaround as
they fly back from California and immediately need to begin preparing for the Tennessee Titans.
As of this writing, we don’t know the status of Dart, Burns, left tackle Andrew Thomas (groin), wide receiver Malik Nabers (shoulder), and cornerback Deonte Banks (calf). While none of the players’ injuries appear to be long-term, it’s possible that the team could be without many of their best and most important players for the coming weeks.
And it’s possible that those who are able to play this week could be limited in what they’re able to do or how well they’re able to play.
If there’s a silver lining to the rash of injuries that struck the Giants in LA, it’s that they happen to coincide with the softest part of the Giants’ schedule. The Giants will face the Tennessee Titans (0-2), Arizona Cardinals (1-1), Washington Commanders (0-2), and New Orleans Saints (1-1) over the next four weeks, who have a combined record of 2-6 after two weeks.
The Titans and Cardinals are struggling to get their respective rebuilds on track, while the Cardinals, Commanders, and Saints have significant injury concerns of their own. The Commanders lost QB Jayden Daniels to a dislocated elbow, while the Saints lost left tackle Kelvin Banks to a fractured ankle. The Cardinals could also be without starting corner Will Johnson, who could miss the remainder of the season with a neck injury.
