Liverpool staging a legends match at Anfield during the first international break of the new year has become something of a tradition for the club, and 2026 is no exception with the Reds set to take on Borussia Dortmund on March 28th in a game that will be especially noteworthy for the return of Jürgen Klopp to the touchline.
Today, the club also announced five more players who will be involved, with Dirk Kuyt, Martin Skrtel, and Vladimir Smicer the three new ex-Reds from the men’s team while Natasha
Dowie and Louise Schillgard are the two new ex-Reds from the women’s side set to take part in the March friendly for the LFC Foundation charity.
They will join already confirmed players including Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypia, and Pepe Reina. Meanwhile, Klopp will be helping out on the bench with Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, and John Aldridge. One would expect Liverpool’s former German manager will also spend time on the touchline for Dortmund given his history there.
Smicer was Liverpool’s second scorer in their legendary 2005 Champions League final comeback victory over AC Milan, while Kuyt and Skrtel were mainstays and cult favourites in the late 2000s and early 2010s sides. Dowie remains LFCW’s all time top scorer and is joined by her teammate from the title winning 2013 and 2014 sides.
