In general, we really don’t know what is going on with DE Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns. It is possible, maybe even likely, that everything is fine and Garrett is just enjoying the offseason away from the team with his girlfriend, Olympian Chloe Kim. At the same time, there is at least some possibility that Garrett is very unhappy with the team and/or could be traded away.
The contract adjustment this offseason still lingers as a huge question as to why it happened for both sides. There are
reasons, beyond a possible trade, but it was a move that hangs over things, as Garrett’s communication with the team has been limited all offseason.
Asked about Garrett during Wednesday’s OTAs, new HC Todd Monken noted they have not talked face-to-face yet:
Just for the record, have you had any face-to-face with [Myles] Garrett yet?
“Myles? No.”
With everything at this point being voluntary, Garrett’s absence is not a big deal, generally. A few other veterans have also not been in attendance, but Monken has not been asked about each of them individually. Again, the contract adjustment this offseason lingers as a big reason these questions continue to be asked. The adjustment made it possible, from a salary cap perspective, for GM Andrew Berry to trade Garrett after June 1st.
For now, there are no new rumors sparking up as Garrett remains away from the team. That could change around June 1st and would ramp up if Garreet skips the mandatory minicamp that starts on June 9th.
What do you make of Garrett’s offseason so far: Something or nothing? What do you expect to actually happen?
