Kai Havertz spoke to the media after Germany’s loss to Paraguay in the Round of 32 and offered an apology to Germany fans, acknowledging that performance recently has not been up to the history of this national team.
“I’m speechless. My second World Cup, and we’ve messed up for the second time. The last few tournaments were a disaster. The only thing I can say is I’m sorry. We players need to take a long, hard look at ourselves. We’re playing for a huge country with a rich football history,” Havertz

Monday’s Round of 32 match was the first time Germany has been back in the knockout rounds since they won it all in 2014 — failing to get out of the group the last two World Cups. Havertz may have also alluded to Germany’s performance in the European Championships, where Germany have also not faired well in recent trips.
When Havertz says the players need to take a long, hard look at themselves, what needs to change for Germany to get back to the top?
