Real Madrid’s Juvenil A side beat Santiago Wanderers’ U-20 team 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to win the Intercontinental Cup at the Bernabéu.
It drew the largest crowd for any youth game in history, with 52,117 people turning out to watch the Juvenil A win yet another trophy.
In doing so, they became the first team in Spanish football history to win the league, the UEFA Youth League, the Cup De Campeones and the Intercontinental Cup in the same season.
Goals from Dani Yanez, Fran Santamaria and Roberto
Martin were enough to defeat eight-man (yes — eight) Santiago Wanderers.
Yanez’s brilliant free kick from an acute angle opened the scoring in the first half, before Mario Rivas’ costly error at the back allowed the visitors to equalise just after half-time.
Yanez was then involved in the second goal too, as he played a beautiful pass to Jesus Fortea, who crossed the ball across goal for Santamaria to score.
After missing the penalty through Yanez in stoppage time, Real Madrid had yet another chance to score, which was put away by Martin — once again created by Fortea after dribbling past two defenders.
