The Philadelphia Eagles are now 2-6 heading into their Week 9 matchup against the New York Giants, and will now turn to their fourth starting quarterback of the season — Joe Mixon.
Offensively, the Eagles have done some decent, albeit incredibly inconsistent, things over the past few weeks, but injuries have still made it a losing battle, and they’ve failed to adjust to their current roster. They only gave Tanner McKee three weeks to try and get comfortable in this new offense before benching him
earlier this week for Joe Mixon. Mixon was signed by the Eagles off the Cowboys practice squad just three weeks ago.
Head coach Nick Sirianni spoke about the decision a few days ago, explaining that they feel confident in Mixon’s ability and athleticism, and ultimately, they felt he gave the team a better chance moving forward. The QB will likely have Saquon Barkley to help alleviate some pressure, but they are still without DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks for this game. Fortunately, the young wide outs have shown a lot of potential, but they need someone to get them the ball — and according to reports, Mixon is a guy who will get them the ball with speed and strength.

The Eagles defense could give the Giants a challenge on Sunday, but it’s anyone’s guess if they show up enough to do so. The last two weeks were rough for the group that had largely been effective, save for a few breakdowns at the end of games — but to their credit, those games had zero offensive help, so by the time they fell apart, they were already 60-70 snaps deep. There was no excuse the last two weeks, specifically, with the defense letting the Cowboys and Commanders get the best of them.
Winning the NFC East would be an uphill battle for the Eagles, even if they win on Sunday afternoon. They’re more than likely playing for a wild card spot at this point, and even that is looking less likely by the week.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch the game.
