Andy Greder of the Pioneer Press is reporting that Minnesota is bringing back Gopher football alums Mohamed Ibrahim and Isaac Fruechte as running backs coach and wide receivers coach, respectively.
Head coach P.J. Fleck is also hiring New Mexico special teams coordinator Daniel Da Proto to the same position.
Ibrahim requires no introduction for Gopher fans. He owns the program record for career rushing touchdowns and broke the single-season marks for rushing attempts, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns in his
senior season at Minnesota. Ibrahim only just completed his first year in the college coaching ranks this season the running backs coach for Kent State, where he was hired by former Gopher assistant Kenni Burns.
Fruechte, a former Minnesota wide receiver from 2012-14, has been in college coaching for eight years since a brief two-year stint as a practice squad player in the NFL. He most recently served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at North Dakota, but came up through the ranks coaching wide receivers.
Da Prato was in his first season with the Lobos this year. He has been coaching for two decades now, with stops at Louisiana Monroe, Sacramento State, Montana State, Colorado, Arkansas, South Florida, and Texas State.
