It was just a couple weeks ago that Nixon Newell (who may be more well known wrestling for WWE under the name Tegan Nox) and her girlfriend Miranda Alize debuted together in AEW on Collision. With the women’s
world tag team championship tournament just around the corner, they were there to challenge Anna Jay & Tay Melo. No date was set at the time but the bout was scheduled to take place on this week’s episode.
It never did, because Newell and Alize walked out on the company.
That’s according to multiple reports. PW Insider initially reported the duo refused to lose the match after losing in their official debut last week. Later, they posted a new report on the back of Newell commenting on her X account that “not everything you read is true,” claiming the team simply wanted more time for the match and when they didn’t get it, they walked.
Fightful, meanwhile, reported that it was indeed over how much time they were to be given and not out of any refusal to lose.
Either way, it seems a bold strategy to refuse to work for a major company so soon into a run there, whether it be over not getting enough time or otherwise.
