In a loaded draft class, AJ Dybantsa stood above the rest and was drafted #1 overall by the Washington Wizards in Tuesday night’s NBA Draft. He is the first ever BYU basketball player selected #1 overall.
AJ came to BYU hyped as a generational-type prospect, and lived up to the hype in his one season in Provo. A 6-foot-9 wing, Dybantsa led the nation in scoring, averaging 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting 51% from the field, 33% from three, and 77% from the foul line. AJ was
named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, in a league with Darryn Peterson, and was named First-Team All American.
AJ joins a Wizards core that includes Trae Young and Anthony Davis. The Wizards finished 17-65 this past season, but will look to get to the playoffs this coming season and hope to quickly become a contender in the Eastern Conference.
