The 2026-27 Syracuse Orange athletics season is underway and after two games the Orange are undefeated.
Syracuse women’s soccer began the 2026 campaign by hosting the Villanova Wildcats. The home opener ended in a scoreless draw thanks to transfer goalie Maya Naimoli’s four saves. Naimoli joined the Orange from Youngstown State (after starting her career at Ohio State) and assumed the job that Shea Vanderbosch held the last few years.
Naimoli only made four saves during the game, but two in the final
minutes secured the draw.
On Sunday, the Syracuse offense finally got on the board as the Orange pulled away for a 3-1 win over Holy Cross. Michigan transfer Vickie Jones got the first goal of the season with this shot from outside the box.
The Crusaders tied the game on a penalty kick but Jasmine Nixon tallied the game-winner with a deflection off a free kick. It’s Nixon’s first collegiate goal and the Orange got an insurance goal when Jones scored her 2nd of the game on a penalty.
Syracuse will take to the road to face Northwestern on Thursday before returning home to host Princeton on Sunday.
