Some of Michigan’s remaining targets in the 2026 recruiting class are already committed to other schools, and a few of them took trips to visit over the weekend. Michigan has secured a lot of commitments
from top targets and the class is in good shape right now, but some flips could make it even stronger before the cycle wraps up. Let’s discuss the latest on today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Four-star SEC commit talks Michigan trip
One player Michigan would love to flip is 2026 four-star linebacker Nick Abrams. He committed to Georgia in July, but Michigan has always been one of his top schools. He was in Ann Arbor on Saturday to see the Wolverines take down Wisconsin.
“It was a great visit,” Abrams told On3’s EJ Holland ($). “I got to see everyone again — the recruiting guys and the coaches. I chopped it up with coach BJ (Brian Jean-Mary) and coach (Sherrone) Moore. They made it known how big of a priority I am and how much of a need I am for this class. It was great talking to them and hearing them reiterate everything. They didn’t sell anything. I can see why Michigan is a great school.”
Abrams may be committed to a different school, but he still feels like Michigan would be a good fit for him.
“They feel like everything is a fit and a match in terms of what I want with education, branding, the alumni base and the football,” he said. “They feel like they are going to be a championship contender this year and next year, especially with Bryce Underwood. They feel like I could be the quarterback of the defense — the Bryce Underwood of the defense. They think I can take control of the room and be that kind of guy.”
Right now, Abrams isn’t thinking about flipping to a different school, but the door is still open for the Wolverines.
“I’m still 100 percent committed to Georgia,” Abrams admitted. “Michigan did a lot of great things. I’m going to keep talking to them and keep seeing where they are at and where I’m at. We’ll see where it goes.”
Charles Woodson Jr. breaks down Michigan visit
One of the greatest players ever to wear the Maize and Blue is Hall of Fame cornerback Charles Woodson. He is still beloved by Michigan fans far and wide, and it would be amazing if his son also got to play his college football in Ann Arbor.
Charles Woodson Jr. is a four-star safety in the 2027 class, and he took his first ever visit to Michigan as a recruit this past weekend.
“It was great,” Woodson told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). “You could feel the love for real. Being there as a recruit is different.
“It’s a family, so that’s what really stood out.”
Woodson Jr. got the chance to interact with secondary coach LaMar Morgan, who he called as a “straight-up guy with how he coaches and everything.” He likes that about his potential future position coach, as well as the fact that the coaches “really care about the players and the well-being of the players.”
If the decision was up to his dad, he would more than likely send his son to Michigan. However, it is Woodson Jr.’s choice and there is a long way to go in his recruitment.
“I’m just trying to do what’s best for me,” Woodson Jr. said. “It’s still early.”
Michigan commit opens up about UNC visit
While Michigan was taking care of business on the football field against Wisconsin, 2026 four-star edge commit Julian Walker was seeing North Carolina get blown out by Clemson. He was supposed to be in Ann Arbor, but he will instead visit for the Ohio State game in November.
“This (visit to UNC) was more about the relationship with coach and those guys, giving them respect and hearing their plan for the program moving forward,” Walker told On3’s McDowell ($). “They have always been honest and upfront with me, and I’m always grateful for my meeting time with coach Belichick.”
South Carolina is also a team to watch in terms of Walker flipping elsewhere, as his dad is a strength coach for the Gamecocks and he visited there last month for one of their games. However, it doesn’t sound like he is leaning toward changing his commitment any time soon.
“I’m extremely good with my commitment and the group we have coming in,” he said. “If I was a bit closer, I could get to Ann Arbor a lot more to be around those guys. I’m really looking forward to getting my first game day experience in the Big House.”
Quick Hitters
- Michigan recently extended an offer to 2026 four-star offensive lineman Sean Stover recently. He is currently committed to Duke, but the Wolverines are looking for a flip. “I’m interested in learning more about their coaches, culture and the football and academic programs,” he told The Michigan Insider ($).
- Unfortunately, 2026 four-star quarterback commit Brady Smigiel tore his ACL and will miss the rest of his senior season.
