Jarek’s Pre-tipoff Thoughts:
Nebraska could make a lot of history this afternoon if they win. It would be the best start to a season in school history, and combine that with last season’s College Basketball Crown Tournament Championship, it would also be the longest winning streak in school history. This however is a much different beast in Illinois.
It’s one thing to win in the Big Ten at home, but it’s far tougher to win on the road. Illinois is going to challenge everything Nebraska stands for defensively, particularly on the glass. The Illini are one of the nation’s best in rebounding margin, so limiting them to one attempt per trip is beyond crucial. Nebraska will also have to do a good job of shooting from distance, as that has been their calling card a lot this season.
I think that win or lose, Nebraska will still be ranked in the top 25 next week. If they do win, I see the Huskers jumping into the 17 or 18 range. What a thing that would be to witness. If Nebraska plays for 40 minutes like they did against Wisconsin, they have a real decent chance at the upset. If they don’t, I think the Huskers will get blown out. I’m leaning towards the first one. Score Prediction: Nebraska 80 Illinois 77
