Pau Cubarsí has been in great form to start the season since being named Young Player of the Tournament at the World Cup in the summer, and he continues to show he’ll be Barcelona’s defensive leader for years to come.
Finding a great partner for Cubarsí will always be the challenge as Barça look to build a top-level defense, and while many fans think a big-money signing needs to be made at center-back, Hansi Flick is currently working with the options available.
Gerard Martín had a breakout year moving
from left-back to center-back last season and seems to be Flick’s favorite choice to partner Cubarsí given the fact he’s left-footed, which is very important for a possession team like Barça.
But Andreas Christensen has been fit and available to start the season, and has played some very good minutes so far as Flick rotates his center-backs to begin the campaign. Christensen has always performed well when healthy, and is also in contention to become Cubarsí’s partner when the big games come throughout the season.
