The Dallas Wings finish their three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon against the New York Liberty. Tipoff is at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday from the Barclays Center.
The Wings have gone 1-1 on the road trip thus far, so Sunday’s game is something as a vibe-setting moment for when the team returns to Dallas to play on Thursday.
The Wings fell back to .500 after their 86-69 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Friday night as the Dallas offense struggled. The Wings finished the game shooting 38% from the field and
25% from the 3-point line.
Awak Kuier led the Wings with 16 points at the Dream as Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale struggled on offense. Bueckers finished with seven points on 3-for-13 shooting from the field and 1-for-6 from beyond the arc. Ogunbowale finished with two points on 1-for-11 shooting from the field and 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.
In the Wings 99-89 win over the Chicago Sky on Wednesday night, Ogunbowale and Bueckers both had over 20 points. Ogunbowale scored 23 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field and 4-for-6 from the 3-point line. Bueckers led the team with 24 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the field and 1-for-3 shooting from the 3-point line.
Behind Bueckers and Ogunbowale’s scoring as well as a Jessica Shepard triple-double, the Wings offense performed significantly better in the win. The offense finished shooting 50% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc.
Dallas will need the offense from Wednesday night because the Liberty lead the WNBA in points, averaging 94 points a game.
In both games, the Wings have allowed the opposing offense to shoot over 45% from the field. Chicago finished the game shooting 48% from the field while Atlanta shot 55% from the field. The difference came from beyond the arc. Chicago shot 24% from the 3-point line, ant Atlanta shot 40% from the 3-point line.
New York enters the game shooting 49.2% from the field and 35% from the 3-point line, leading to the Liberty possessing a 3-2 record.
Having a winning record makes this road trip, a road trip where Dallas has faced teams with winning records.
After back-to-back poor seasons, Dallas is looking to showcase its ability to compete against top teams in the WNBA. The result on Sunday factors into what fans think of the Wings this early in the season.
