Impeccable relief pitching helped the Oklahoma City Comets defeat the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Astros) 7-1. Starter Christian Romero gave up one run in four and two-thirds
innings, and then a quartet of relivers finished the game without giving up a run or hit. Paul Gervase pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out one, and Bobby Miller pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out two. Alex Freeland and Noah Miller hit home runs for the Comets, and Tommy Edman played centerfield and went one for three.
Double-A Tulsa
Down 11-5 after seven innings, the Tulsa Drillers came all the way back to tie the game, only to lose it on the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning, 12-11, to the Wichita Wind Surge (Twins). The high-scoring affair saw big games by Kole Myers (two hits, four runs scored) and James Tibbs III (triple, home run, four RBIs). Patrick Copen started for the Drillers, and gave up four runs in four innings. Ben Ross ambushed Tulsa reliever Carson Hobbs in the ninth inning, hitting the first pitch over the left field wall for a walk-off home run.
High-A Great Lakes
The Great Lakes Loons put together a trio of three-run innings to defeat the Lake County Captains (Guardians) 9-5. Josue De Paula, finishing the season red hot, had two hits, including a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Jake Gelof, also closing the season strong, had a single, a double, and a walk.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Fresno Grizzlies (Rockies) beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-3. Landyn Vidourek had three hits for the Quakes, and Emil Morales contributed a hit and an RBI.
The California League Playoffs begin Tuesday night, and the Quakes will play the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels) in a best-of-three game series.
