With DeShon Elliott still on injured reserve and safety Bishop Fitzgerald poached off the practice squad, the Steelers worked out three safeties on Tuesday per the NFL transaction page, Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders reported.
The three players who tried out for Pittsburgh were Beau Brade, Austin Brown and Dan Jackson.
Brade has the most experience of the group. Undrafted in 2024, he has spent time with the Ravens and Giants. Over that span, he’s appeared in 26 games with no starts, playing 400 special teams snaps with just 12 on defense.
Brown was an undrafted free agent in 2026, initially signing with the Indianapolis Colts. In his final season with the Wisconsin Badgers in college, he logged 40 total tackles and three passes defensed.
Jackson was a seventh-round pick in 2025 by the Detroit Lions, never appearing in a game in the NFL as he landed on injured reserve during his rookie season. In his final collegiate season at Georgia, Jackson logged 64 total tackles, three passes defensed and two interceptions.
As for Tuesday evening, the Steelers have not signed any of their tryouts.
