The top 25 Ole Miss women’s basketball team showed exactly why they have so much hype going into this upcoming season with an 80-38 win over Alcorn St. on Monday.
The season opener gave the No. 19 Lady Rebels (1-0) a chance to play someone other than themselves as the team looks to get back to the NCAA Tournament. This was also the annual Kids Day game, so the screaming, hootin’ and hollerin’ of the local school children was constant throughout the broadcast.
Jaida Civil led the team in scoring with
17 points while also chipping in six rebounds and five assists. Jade Tillman and Jada Richard also scored in double digits with 14 points each. Ole Miss was dominant on the boards with a +20 rebound advantage over Alcorn State.
Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin is now 23-0 against SWAC opponents while head coach at Ole Miss. The Lady Rebels are 20-1 all-time against Alcorn State.
The Lady Rebels did have a slow start only leading 10-6 after the first quarter but broke the 20-point plateau each of the remaining quarters. Next up for Ole Miss is North Alabama on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. CT with the game streamed live on SEC Network +.
