Today, the Kansas City Current announced that they have signed Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champion Myriam Maëva Nyadjou Wamen. The Cameroon Women’s National Team defender has signed a contract through the 2029 season – pending receipt of her P-1 visa.
“I am very happy to begin a new adventure with the Kansas City Current,” said Nyadjou. “Playing in the NWSL has always been a dream of mine, and I look forward to training with and competing against some of the best players in the world.”
Nyadjou was named 2026 WAFCON Best Young Player. Cameroon became just the fourth different champion to win WAFCON and booking their ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“We are pleased to welcome Maëva to Kansas City and have her join what we’re building,” said general manager Ryan Dell. “She is coming off a remarkable WAFCON tournament where she was a key part of Cameroon’s historic success. Maëva is a young talent who is only getting started, and we’re excited to help her develop.”
The defender most recently played in the Guinness Super League with Amazone FAP (based in her hometown of Yaoundé) of Cameroon’s top-flight women’s championship.
