The Boston Celtics have signed Amari Williams to a two-way contract, the team announced Friday.
The 46th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Williams appeared in 141 games across four seasons at Drexel and one season with Kentucky basketball. He averaged 10.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.6 blocks in 21.4 minutes per game while shooting 52.9% from the field in his career.
The Nottingham, England, native started in all 36 games this past season for the Wildcats, averaging 10.9 points, 8.5
rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks in 22.8 minutes per game. He led the team in rebounds (306) and field-goal percentage (.561) and tied for the team lead in assists with 115, the most ever by a UK 7-footer.
Williams also became just the second player in SEC history to record at least 375 points, 300 rebounds, 100 assists, 40 blocks, and 20 steals in a single season. Before his time at Kentucky, Williams was a three-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time First-Team All-CAA selection at Drexel.
In the NBA, a two-way contract allows players to be rostered on an NBA team and its G League affiliate. Players on two-way deals are eligible to be active for a maximum of 50 games with their NBA team. Williams will spend the rest of the season with Boston’s G League team, the Maine Celtics.
According to Sports Business Classroom, players can sign for up to two years on a two-way contract, with no more than $85,300 guaranteed for 2025-26 (and a projected $91,000 for 2026-27). A two-way contract can guarantee up to half of base compensation ($318,218 for 2025-26) if the player is not waived by the first day of the regular season.
