Bayern Munich received some good news ahead of Saturday’s massive clash with Borussia Dortmund. According to a report from Sky Sport, Joshua Kimmich will return to the squad for the Klassiker. The midfielder had recently been absent following the death of his father, but he is now expected to be available for one of the biggest matches of the season.
Kimmich’s return would be a significant boost for Bayern Munich. His leadership, experience, and ability to dictate the tempo in midfield are invaluable,
particularly in a fixture where control and composure can make all the difference.
There had been uncertainty surrounding his availability after his recent absence, so seeing him back in the squad is an encouraging development for the coaching staff. Whether he is ready to start or will be used as an option from the bench remains to be seen, but simply having him available gives Bayern Munich another important option.
With Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala already ruled out, getting Kimmich back is a welcome piece of news as Bayern Munich prepare for Der Klassiker.
Earlier in the day, board member for sport Max Eberl addressed the situation with Sky Germany’s Torben Hoffmann, which set the stage for Kimmich to be available if he was up to it.
“Getting back into a daily routine can certainly help. The fact that he has now completed two individual training sessions and will train with the team today will undoubtedly help him on his way, including in processing everything – if you can ever fully process something like this, which I don’t think you can. If it does him good and he feels fit, I’m very sure he would tell the coach: ‘Hey, I want to play tomorrow. I want to play whether it’s against Dortmund or in any other game. I’m ready.’ — Then the coaching staff will consider the situation and make a decision,” said Eberl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
