Husker volleyball got started right away and never looked back today as they swept the California Golden Bears 3-0 in their final game of the weekend. While Cal was having a pretty good match, it wasn’t good enough to match the Huskers pace of play.
The match started at 1pm and it finished just about an hour and a half later after the Huskers got their 4th sweep of the season with the other 3 being Stanford, Lipscomb, and Wright State.
Today, we saw the normal starting lineup hit
the court when the match started. Rebekah Allick was back at middle blocker after Manaia Ogbechie had a big night on Friday night against Wright State. Virginia Adriano also got her second start in a row today at opposite.
Cal was handed their first loss on Saturday afternoon, by Wright State, after the Raiders beat the Bears in a 5 set match in the morning.
Halfway through the 2nd set, we saw DBK start to switch up the lineup. Campbell Flynn came in for Bergen Reilly at setter and Allie Sczech came in for Adriano the opposite position.
Reilly ended the day with 2 kills, hitting .333%, and 20 assists. Adriano had 3 kills, hitting .333% as well, and had 1 block. Maisie Boesiger also got to see some more playing time as DBK got her in there for a couple of rotations. Boesiger did not post a dig though.
Also during the 2nd set, the Huskers were hitting a big .800% about halfway through the set. Harper Murray also led the team, after the 2nd, with 11 kills on the day. Murray would play most of the match today and then Skyler Pierce came into the match, again, for Murray like Friday night.
We are still yet to see freshman Ryan Hunter, Kenna Cogill, and Kerri Leimbach made an appearance in a match yet. This leads me to believe that these 3 will probably be redshirted this season. Hunter is behind Adriano and Sczech, Cogill is behind Allick, Jackson, and Ogbechie, and Leimbach is behind Choboy, Mauch, and Boesiger..
Harper Murray finished the match with 14 kills and hit .370% on the day. Andi Jackson was right behind her with 12 kills, hitting .450%. Allick hit .450% to round out the top 3 for the day.
Jackson and Allick tied for the team high in blocks today as both had 4 blocks a piece. Each had 1 solo and 3 assisted.
Laney Choboy and Teraya Sigler led the team in the digs category today as Choboy had 11 and Sigler had 10. Sigler has proven to be an amazing addition in the back court for the Huskers as she always has good defensive numbers while also putting up some offense as well when she takes swings from the back court. Today, he had 5 kills and hit .400%.
Huskers – .419%
Golden Bears – .088%
Next weekend will be the final non-conference tournament of the season as they will be putting on the Husker Invitational. Grand Canyon, Drake, and Utah will be attending this. The Huskers will be set for another tune-up weekend before B1G play starts on the 24th against Michigan
