Newcastle United are looking for young defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window, with depth at left-back emerging as a priority area.
It sounds like recurring injury concerns surrounding Lewis Hall have prompted internal discussions about bringing in competition and cover for the position next season.
According to Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey, Newcastle have a concrete interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Hugo Bueno. The 23-year-old is and will be monitored closely by
NUFC scouts during the final months of the campaign, with a potential offer being submitted come July.
Bueno has established himself as Wolves’ first-choice left-back this season as a product of the club’s academy system after joining in 2019. The Spaniard made his senior debut in 2022 and later spent time on loan at Feyenoord, where he featured in a Champions League round-of-16 run.
Since returning to Molineux, the Spain Under-21 international has made 26 appearances across all competitions.
Wolves, however, extended Bueno’s contract in November 2023 through 2028, reflecting his growing importance within the squad and the lack of interest in parting ways any time soon.
Statistically, Bueno has remained productive despite Wolves’ struggles. According to Fotmob data from 21 February, he averages 2.53 tackles, 1.46 interceptions, 2.37 clearances and 4.80 recoveries per 90 minutes in Premier League play.
Bueno has also contributed offensively, averaging 2.05 successful crosses, 1.35 chances created and a 0.12 expected assists figure per 90 minutes.
Newcastle are expected to prioritize a left-back addition during the main summer window as part of broader squad planning, but wehether Wolves would be willing to part with Bueno remains uncertain, to say the least.
