Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola was an unused substitute as the reigning European Champions beat the Europa League holders Aston Villa 2-1 to win the UEFA Super Cup in back-to-back years.
There has been much speculation over Barcola’s future, with Liverpool FC named as the leading suitor for his services. There remains a steep difference in valuation between both parties, and after the final whistle in Salzburg, PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi spoke about the situation to broadcaster Canal+:
“We’re working calmly. We don’t talk too much; we do. I can’t say whether he will leave or not… Today, he is a PSG player. We’ll see.“
Well, that’s not exactly what a club official desperate to keep hold of a player would put out. PSG have signed Maghnes Akliouche and are in discussions to add Ferran Torres and Mika Godts. It seems like common sense will prevail, and PSG will drop their asking price once those deals are finalised.
Liverpool are, of course, also interested in another PSG winger, Ibrahim Mbaye, but PSG’s current valuation is deemed too high. We’ll see what happens this week.
