The latest Duke Chronicle player profile is of Patrick Ngongba, and from his freshman to sophomore seasons, Ngongba has grown as much as any Duke player in recent memory. If you remember, Ngongba missed much of his senior season in high school with a foot injury, and with Duke’s depth up front last season, we thought there was a chance he might redshirt.
Well, that didn’t happen.
Ngongba became a critical asset late last season when Maliq Brown was injured, and we saw flashes of brilliance.
He really
expanded on it this season. Not only did Ngongba anchor Duke’s interior, he, along with Brown and Cameron Boozer, were elite passers. The Blue Devils lost an awful lot when he was injured late in the season, and never fully recovered.
Ngongba is very likely to be drafted should he choose to enter the draft, but he could also decide to return and go as a junior in a weaker draft. He’d be a huge asset for Duke if he comes back.
