If you have access to The Athletic ( we don’t but Barry Jacobs clued us in to this), there is an interesting piece up on Cameron Boozer, asking if he has emerged as the first pick.
The criticism of Boozer has been over his athleticism, or alleged lack of athleticism really, and the Athletic article suggests NBA types aren’t buying that.
Another guy who is leaning towards Boozer: ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.
Lunardi said this: “If I had the No. 1 overall pick… I think I would take Boozer. But we’re talking about
whether to take Magic or Larry Bird here.”
Time will prove whether that’s true or not, but as far as the he-plays-below-the-rim business goes, you only spend a few seconds in the air in any game. Yes it’s an advantage, but it’s a bigger advantage if you can operate on the ground level at a consistently high level. Boozer does that as well as anyone in college currently and better than most in the NBA as well.
