The Philadelphia 76ers have started the 2025-26 with a perfect 4-0 record. Just as we all were expecting, right?
Jokes aside, it has been a lot of fun. We were treated to a stellar career debut from 2025 No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecombe, who put up a franchise-record 34 points in his first NBA contest to open the season. Across the Sixers’ first four games, the rookie is averaging 22.3 points per contest (shooting 42.9% from three on 7.0 attempts) with 5.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals. Not much to complain about there from your 20-year-old draft pick.
To put it simply: Edgecombe is very, very good at basketball. FanDuel Sportsbook has him at +135 odds to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award, a close second to No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg at -105. Bottom line: Edgecombe is going to be very important for the Sixers going forward. We know this.
So, instead, let’s talk about who else could be massively impactful amongst the newcomers to the Philadelphia squad.
In the recent offseason, the Sixers picked up a pair of 22-year-olds on two-way contracts: 6-foot-9 Dominick Barlow and 6-foot-7 Jabari Walker. Barlow, prior to suffering an elbow laceration that will sideline him for at least a few games, was having a promising start to the season and seems to be an absolute monster on the boards. Good rebounding is never a bad addition for a Sixers squad. Walker has had a bit of a quieter start to his Sixers’ career, averaging 4.5 points shooting 44.4% from the floor with 3.8 rebounds in 13.5 minutes per game across the first four contests.
The team also signed Trendon Watford over the summer. Due to a hamstring issue that began in the preseason, Watford only just made his debut for the 76ers on Tuesday night against the Washington Wizards, so we haven’t gotten to see too much of him just yet. In 44 appearances (10 starts) with the Brooklyn Nets last season, though, the 24-year-old averaged career highs in points (10.2) and assists (2.6), with 3.6 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per game.
And there’s a few other new faces that we haven’t really seen yet. Johni Broome, the 2025 No. 35 overall draft pick, has yet to make his NBA debut. Hunter Sallis, the rookie on a two-way contract after going undrafted, has only appeared for a single, one-minute stint against the Orlando Magic so far.
So, for this Sixers Reacts Survey, we want to know who YOU think will be the most impactful newcomer to the 76ers that isn’t named VJ Edgecombe. Let us know!
